Coraline!

Hola!

Well, this little blog post will be full of my gushing about Coraline! ;'jd;lkjgaolsdfasda Ah! It was amazing! So I think it would be safest to say SPOILER ALERT!

The animation was superb and not painfully stop-motiony. It looked so beautiful and creepy at the same time! The perfect balance! The character designs were pretty sweet too. Coraline herself rocked that blue hair and her starry outfit was so cute, as well as her raincoat. I loved Wybie's bad posture and his helmet/mask/skull thing. Miss Spink and Miss Forcible were very uh, special, might be a good word here. ;) I wasn't really a fan of the parents' designs, (the Other Parents included) they had personality, but I don't know, seemed on the bland side. But! My favorite design was Mr. Bobinsky! I don't know if it was the fact that he was blue or that he had a major beer belly. . . but I couldn't help but love him so much!

The story was pretty good, especially in the beginning. After her second night with the Other Parents, it didn't seem to progress as it should. In the end, when she is playing the game with the Other Mother, it seemed like the standard video game plot. (You must collect the three eyes before facing the final boss...!) Despite this, it was still interesting and exciting, especially since it didn't really end there.

There was surprisingly alot of action in this movie. Now, mind you, I wasn't fortunate enough to see the 3-D version, though I am happy, in a way, because I think the 3-D ness might have been distracting. Anyway, it was definately creepy and bordering on scary. I know there was a group of kids that had to leave (when the Other Mother's needle hand came out from under the door) and I myself was creeped out by the buttons, the terrior dogs, and (most of all) the ghosts, specifically the tall girl ghost. I'm not sure why I was scared of her, perhaps the terrifying expression on her face... Oh, and I was also rather creeped out by Miss Forcible and Miss Spink when Coraline was getting the eye from them, how they were shouting for her to give it back. That, and when Coraline closes the door on the Other Mother after escaping from her web, when the Other Mother is pleading with Coraline. I always seemed to get the willies from that sort of thing.

SPOILERS OVER!

I loved this movie, and I really want to see it again! (ahem, Carrie, ahem) In addition to this, I also really want to check out the original book, since books tend to be better than movies. (That would make this book pretty freakin' sweet if you ask me :P) Also, I wish there were more movies like this: intersting, good animation, easily enjoyed by all age groups, not cheesy. Like many people (I hope) I'm sick of movies that consist of "Let's put some CG animals in a movie, give them some celebrities to do voice-overs, set it to some popular music, add some dancing and random, stupid, pop-culture funnyness and viola!" :(

Here's to hoping that Coraline might inspire more awesome animated films!
